Wedding Fashion: Bridesmaid’s Shoe Edition
Ladies, I saw something on the red carpet the other day that surprised me—matchy-match shoes. Yes, that’s a correct fashion term. I read it Women’s Wear Daily. (No I didn’t.)
Michelle Williams and Julie Bowen both showed up to the SAG Awards in shoes the exact shade of their gowns.
I was a little surprised when I saw the shoes. I thought metallic and nude heels had taken over. Those neutral shades are always my first choice for bridesmaids. I wore gold heels with an eggplant gown and nude shoes with a blue dress. And when I scroll through blogs and magazine features I never see girls in shoes that match their dresses.

Will You Do the Tangerine Tango This Year?
Tangerine Tango! It is the Pantone color of the year. This reddish-orange shade is already popping up all over the place. In fact, I’m happily wearing it today!
According to Pantone, Tangerine Tango is "sophisticated but at the same time dramatic and seductive." Executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, Leatrice Eiseman continues, "Reminiscent of the radiant shadings of a sunset, Tangerine Tango marries the vivaciousness and adrenaline rush of red with the friendliness and warmth of yellow, to form a high-visibility, magnetic hue that emanates heat and energy."
I also like orange in different shades—like peach and coral—and think these colors are so romantic at weddings. I really do melt every time I fee a big fat garden rose in a peachy shade. I think they should start giving those out on The Bachelor.
Ok, enough about what I think of the color. What do you think? Would you consider using it in your wedding?

That’s one serious color.
Orange has always been a popular wedding color. I have never favored the bright shade in wedding flowers—I prefer rosy pinks and ivory. But I do like to see it used in unlikely places, like the bride’s shoes just below! I think the color is bright, without being obnoxious, (which can sometimes happen with yellow. Yellow can be very loud). And in the winter, it’s a color that makes me feel good.

2012: Marriage Resolutions
I just realized I type half of these blogs before I’ve had any coffee! I’m realizing it today because I’m sitting on the train willing my eyes open and my fingers to move. Maybe it’s the cold or maybe it’s this cold I feel coming on. Likely it has more to do with the fact that I watched The Bachelor last night. It aired Monday night, what took me so long? Well, since you asked, I was determined to make it not be the first prime time show I watched in 2012. Technically, if you want to be technical about it, Keeping Up With Kourtney and Kim or whatever it’s called was the first prime time program I watched in 2012. I didn’t watch the entire episode. For example, I didn’t find out what happened to Mr. Scott’s impulse buy baby grand piano. (Did it go back?) I got caught up wondering where a man buys a double breasted lavender sports coat and what motivates that man to then put it on in the morning. Mid-thought Keith changed the channel and I was too caught up to notice. That doesn’t count as actually watching it, right?
Sooo 2012, we’re off to a good start. You’ve taught me interesting things about men’s fashion. Secrets I will likely keep from my husband for fear he may believe in them. Wait, he was sitting right next to me. It may be too late for us. Oh boy, it’s time for that coffee. Let’s move on.
The other night I asked Keith to help me make some resolutions for our marriage. Marriage takes work, but not just from one person. So we put our heads together and here’s what we came up with.
We should not change into sweats as soon as we walk through the door. This was Keith’s idea. Perhaps he is not attracted to my old college sweatpants with holes and bleach stains. Perhaps he does not like the several layers of fleece, blankets and wool that I burrow into every evening. Ok, Keith. I see what you’re getting at and I think you’re right. I talk about respecting each other and what respect do I show you when I dress like a homeless person every night? But I love to be comfortable when I’m at home. No shoes, no bra, no problem. I think Kenny Chesney said that. I can buy fancy lounge clothes. Shopping can easily solve this resolution.
Focus more on our shared interests. Last year Keith and I became very involved in our personal interests. I started this blog and Keith and his brother got into real estate. They are two house-flipping geniuses destined for riches and HGTV fame. But we’ve been pursuing both of these interests in addition to our day jobs and it takes up a lot of time. We spend many nights side-by-side on the couch doing our own thing. I think it’s great that we have our own interests, but we need to remember to take time for those that we share. Drinking wine and dancing (see above) come to mind right away. Also watching baseball, but sometimes when the Sox play the Yankees shared interests are lost. So we’ve resolved to take up dancing lessons again. We took them before our wedding and had so much fun. Going to class every week was less about our first dance and more about the time we spent together. Bonus: You get to be really close for an hour straight, which always made us leave smiling.
Cook together more often. Keith and I cook a lot. Keith cooks some nights while I blog or answer e-mails and I cook other nights while Keith is working late. I like to cook, but it’s more fun to do it together. Our kitchen is small and we usually bump into each other a lot, but I still really like sharing this activity with Keith. And I want to try more challenging dishes in the kitchen! Last night the chilly temps had me screaming some something warm so I tried this easy Beouf Bourguignon recipe I found in the New York Times. I served it over mashed sweet potatoes and it was amazing! It really was easy, too. Bon appetite!
I’m sure there are a lot more Keith and I can resolve to do better. I’m sure we don’t always fight fair and sometimes we can both be a little stubborn. I know we’ll work on all that, but I’m happy to have some fun goals in mind, too.

Inspiration: Bright Dahlia
Lately, I’ve been craving neon colors. (Which is perfect timing because they’re trending for Spring 2012!) A few weeks ago it was magenta that had my heart. This week it’s the lovely and loud shade of pink that J. Crew so correctly classifies as Bright Dahlia. I’m in love.
I first spotted the hue on a skinny belt from Ann Taylor Loft. I had it in my hand, but decided to save my money instead. (What? Did I just say that?) So great news came last night when I saw it was 50% off, plus free shipping. And bad news quickly followed when I learned the item was sold out. So pink is popular. I can’t say I’m surprised.
While there is something really special about soft romantic shades and monochromatic color palettes, I’m really loving bold pops of color right now. Contrasting shades can come off as casual, and I think the trick is to use small punches of color in unexpected places. For example, wear a hot pink headband or decorate the back of your chairs with streamers in a look-at-me shade. Why stop there! Hang cream-colored escort cards from bright ribbon or add a big fat (hot pink) kiss to your favor tags. If you can weave color into unexpected places, you’ll have your guests’ attention all night long.
Fun fashion tip ---> If you love neons but not enough to marry them pick out accessories in bold shades to pack on your honeymoon. Mixing in a few new pieces will refresh your wardrobe, making it feel like new. Plus, the eye-catching colors will make your photos come out great.

Inspiration: Bright Magenta
When it comes to color, I generally keep it simple. I wear a lot of black and navy, and I absolutely love neutral shades like cream and beige. Our house is decorated the same—blue, white and gold dominate. And when I do stray, I always opt for shades of pink. I don’t hate color. In fact, I love it. Bold shades always draw my eye. I’m just more of a play-it-safe type of gal, and when it comes to spending money on clothing I like to invest in pieces I know for certain I won’t tire of.
With winter approaching I want to embrace color, so when I was drawn to a deep magenta blouse at J. Crew a few weeks ago I knew I had to get it. I didn’t ask myself the usual questions I ask when I shop: What will I wear this with? How often will I wear it? Would it be more practical in black? I just bought it! And I’m so happy I did. Magenta is the perfect color for a wedding party, too. I just love how the color pops. If I had to plan my wedding right now I’d dress my bridesmaids in it.
